The BBC reports that, following the appointment of Phillip Hammond as Defence Secretary, the Conservative minister Justine Greening has become the new Transport Secretary.
Philip Hammond became Defence Secretary following Liam Fox’s resignation.
Justine Greening, the MP for Putney, previously opposed the plans to build a third runway at Heathrow, describing the moment that these plans were scrapped, following the coalition’s election at the 2010 general election, as ‘fantastic news’, according to the BBC.
Following a story in the Daily Telegraph, the Government has now moved to reassure the aviation industry there will be no conflict of interest, stating that Ms Greening’s duties will be carried out ‘fairly and responsibly’.
